AGRS 491 Topics in Agronomy and Soil Science (V) Study and discussion of significant topics, problems. Offered by visiting faculty and/or for extension programs. Repeatable.

AGRS 492 Internship (4) Integration and application of academic knowledge and critical skills emphasizing professional development. Placement with an approved cooperating supervisor/employer. Pre: consent. (Cross-listed as ENTO 492 and HORT 492)

AGRS 499 Directed Study (V) Pre: senior standing in agronomy and consent.

AGRS 500 Master's Plan B/C Studies (1) Enrollment for degree completion. Pre: master's Plan B or C candidate and consent.

AGRS 630 Agriculture and the Environment (2) Land use issues, principles, and strategies for environmentally sound agriculture. Degradative and aggradative impacts of alternative management on natural, land, and water resources and environmental quality. Pre: graduate standing or advanced undergraduate standing, and consent.

AGRS 631 Sustainable Agriculture Seminar (2) Critical evaluation of existing and alternative cropping systems from a long-term perspective. Value conflicts and resolution. Pre: graduate standing or advanced undergraduate standing, and consent.

AGRS 651 Instrumental Techniques of Plant and Soil Analysis (3) (2 Lec, 1 3-hr Lab) Theory, sample preparation, and analysis of data by currently used instrumental techniques including photon (visible through x-ray) emission and absorption, electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), and synchrotron radiation. Pre: CHEM 253 or equivalent and SOIL 430; or consent.

AGRS 654 Communications in Agriculture (1) Laboratory-type course for improving communication abilities; presentations to lay audiences are emphasized. Hands-on experience in techniques and methods is provided.

AGRS 661 Agricultural Meteorology (4) Physical exchange processes of radiation, water, carbon dioxide, and heat between soil, plants/animals, and atmosphere; moisture and temperature relationships; crop requirements, suitability, and scheduling. Pre: MATH 140 and either PHYS 151 or PHYS 152, or consent.

AGRS 670 Agrarian Systems Analysis (3) Comparative analysis of philosophy and process of interdisciplinary and participatory approaches to sustainable development and rural resource management including farming systems research and extension (FSR&E), agroecosystem analysis (AEA), participatory action research (PAR), and rapid rural appraisal (RRA). Repeatable. Pre: consent. (Cross-listed as AREC 670)

AGRS 671 International Agricultural Systems (2) Analysis of trends and strategies in international agricultural research and development. International agricultural research centers (IARC), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), university networks and consortia, and private voluntary organizations (PVOs). Pre: graduate standing.

AGRS 699 Directed Research (V) Pre: candidacy for MS or PhD degree and consent.

AGRS 700 Thesis Research (V)

AGRS 701 Seminar in Advanced Agronomy and Soil Science (1) Oral presentation and discussion of recent research in tropical agronomy and soil science. Pre: graduate standing.
