Techniques of forecasting, such as exponential smoothing,
regression, and Box-Jenkins. Review of available computer software.
Applications to economic analysis of industries and firms in national

BEC 399 Directed Reading and Research (V) Reading
and research of a special area in major under direction of faculty
member(s). Project must include statement of objectives, outline of
activities planned, results expected, and how they are to be reported
and evaluated. Must be approved in advance by the department chair and
the faculty adviser.
BEC 461 International Business Economics (3) Discussion
of current international business and economic problems, international
trade policies, business environments, monetary problems, protectionism
against free trade, and nation/state economic policies and control, with
applications in Asian/Pacific areas. Pre: BUS 313.
BEC 470 Dynamics of Asian Business: Selected Topics
(3) Status and role of Asian business; current technological,
economic, and financial developments; impact on world economy. Pre: ECON
130 and ECON 131, or consent.
BEC 476 Industry Studies (3) Analysis of
particular industries to determine trends, shifting product mix,
technological change. Study of individual industries on local, national,
international levels. Impact of government regulation, deregulation.
Pre: BUS 316 or consent.
BEC 477 Industry in Asia (6) Analysis of
selected key industries of Asian countries: business/economic trends,
shifting product mix, technological changes, joint ventures,
international competition, and productivity strategy, including
contrasting management styles, worker/management relationships, and
decision-making processes under different cultural settings. Industry
observations conducted in Asian countries for three weeks during the
summer. Pre: 6 credit hours of economics or business, PAMI participant,
or consent.
BEC 495 Multinational Business in World Economy (3)
Economies of multinational enterprises. Interactions with social,
cultural, and political environments. Pre: BUS 316 or consent.
BEC 501 Economics for Managers (3) Economic
principles for students entering graduate business programs. Covers
essentials of micro-, macro-, international, and public sector
economics. Students cannot get credit for this course and ECON 130-131,
nor does it count toward a graduate degree.
BEC 624 Current Issues in World Business and Economics
(3) Study of modern issues and problems in
business economics. Topics may vary from term to term. Pre: BUS 610 or
consent.
BEC 625 Capital Markets and International Finance
(3) Supply and demand for capital in national and international
markets. Nature of capital movements and role of capital in
industrialization of regions and nations. Pre: BUS 610 or consent.
BEC 626 Economics of Entrepreneurship (3) Examination
of major theories of entrepreneurial supply. Characteristics and
consequences of entrepreneurial behavior. Interdisciplinary approach
with emphasis on case studies in Pacific/international areas. Pre:
consent.
