ABOUT THIS CATALOG

Chancellor's Message

The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa has educated five generations of students since its establishment nearly a century ago in 1907. The campus has always prided itself on providing the highest quality academic programs, taught by excellent faculty, for Hawai‘i’s young people and a broad range of students who come to us from across the mainland and a multitude of other countries.

Our islands – and our campus community – offer an excellent example of diversity in its people, its natural setting, and in its cultures. Our diversity defines us and strengthens us, and we value and respect the contributions of each and every individual who comes to us to learn.

A review of course offerings in the General Catalog will provide a glimpse of the rich academic resources available to our students in a host of disciplines. No other institution of higher learning can match the breadth of our courses in Hawaiian, Asian and Pacific Islands studies. We teach more languages here than at any other American university. Our programs in ocean and earth sciences, astronomy, tropical agriculture, biomedical research, travel industry management, and urban and regional planning are recognized nationally and internationally.

The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa is well-equipped to help you meet your education and career goals. I invite you to review the Catalog to discover the best paths to reach them in a learning environment that will transform your lives.

Aloha pumehana,

Peter Englert
